It works well.. but.., April 25, 2008

    I mean, it works.

We bought this contraption because the previous owners of our house decided to route the dryer vent 40-50 feet around the patio. (You’re only supposed to let vents run like 20-25 feet without additional pumping.) We needed a quick fix to stave off having a new duct professionally installed.

Enter, Ace Lint Trap Kit. What used to take 3 drying cycles now takes less than 1.

    Downsides:
    1) Included hose is flimsy and short. I replaced mine with a much higher grade flexible aluminum duct from HDepot.
    2) If you’re going to do some serious drying (i.e. multiple loads back to back).. THE ROOM WILL GET SERIOUSLY HUMID AND THERE WILL BE CONDENSATION. Luckily I have windows and doors and a ceiling fan nearby that resolve these issues. If you don’t have adequate ventilation.. THINK TWICE.

save energy, add moisture to indoor air, October 21, 2007
    By

We live in the desert of New Mexico, where the indoor air is incredibly dry, especially in winter. Using the indoor dryer vent adds healthful moisture to the indoor air, as well as plenty of heat in the winter. Product works fairly well; we use a long flexible vent duct to put the vent near the living area where the heat and humidity is needed. Needs weekly cleaning and water refill.

    Great concept, February 6, 2008

I was hoping to keep a little warm moist air in the house with this product and it does that. The design could be a little better because it doesn’t keep all the lint in it. When I turn the dryer on, it blows all over (even tho it has plenty of water in it) There is also a little plastic insert in the middle that will not stay in place. It does trap a lot of lint in the water (which makes me wonder when I have the dryer hooked to the outside line where all that goes!! That is probably why the outdoor vent cover is stuck open so often!) Again, I think it is a great concept, it just needs a little fine tunimg.

Part works well. I suggest that the on-line info make it clear that the 6″ dimension refers to the diameter of the connecting pipe

Cover is perfect for exterior end of downdraft vent pipe which originates over our stove. Cover fit snugly over pipe and stays in place well. Moveable louvres open and close effectively when fan turns on. Grid keeps out unwanted creatures such as mice or birds. Reasonable price. Great product.

Nice unit but it doesn’t keep out the cold of winter weather. The louvers are relatively efficient but need regular lint cleaning – as does the rest of the vent “pipe.”
I strongly suggest some additional sealing (device or tape)to keep out the drafts and cold during winter months.
